Handmade Holiday: Recipe Cards

Handwritten, homemade recipes are thoughtful, classic gifts! Use our template to get started.

My mother frames our great grandma’s handwritten dessert cards on her kitchen wall—they’re a work of art, a constant reminder of grams, and a family tradition, after all! She put so much love into her cookies, it shows all over those used cards, and in the smiles of anyone whose tried them.  I’ve given typed versions of my favorite dishes to family and friends for years, but my Rosemary Sage Pork Loins drove everyone wild this season!  Paired with the spices it takes to create the dish, a recipe is truly a sweet gesture that says you want to share your unique tastes, knowledge and traditions!

If you dont’ have immediate ideas, tasty dishes take a little time and practice.  I begin with recipes that already exist and modify them to my current interests.  Better Homes and gardens 1987 book is my food bible— there’s such a well-rounded hearty base of ingredients, I can turn almost any recipe into a modern fusion explosion!  Since cooking can become second nature and we rarely record our ingredients and proportions, bring a notebook in the kitchen next time, and measure!

Use these Handy Templates!

To make things easier for you, I’ve attached both 3×5 and 4×6 simple black and white pdf versions of my recipe card—use them to pass on your own culinary tradition this season!
