Homemade Hot Chocolate

This recipe has been in the works since I could read the back of the cocoa container, made the basic mix, and tasted fresh disappointment. I’ve practiced many times since that first cup, and this year I’m certain—I’ve discovered the Crème de la Crème of hot cocoa recipes! It’s not too heavy or sweet, but chocolatey enough to satisfy year round! It would probably be great with a little alcohol, too! 😉

Winter Warming Hot Cocoa

  • Servings: 1
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

  • 1 1/4 Cups Hot Whole Milk
  • 2-3 tsp Cocoa Powder
  • 4-5 tsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Agave Nectar
  • 2-4 Drops Vanilla
  • 1-2 Pinches of Salt
  • (optional) 2 drops flavored oil, like peppermint, orange or almond
  • (optional) 2 tsp Dark or Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (60-70% Cocoa)
  • (optional) Whipped Cream

Heat milk in microwave or saucepan on med, stirring every minute, until hot. In the meantime, mix cocoa, sugar and salt in your mug. Once milk is heated thoroughly, pour 2 Tbsp into the dry mix, and blend ingredients. Add the Agave Nectar, Vanilla and optional flavor to the mug, stirring well. Slowly pour the remaining hot milk into the mixture, continuing to stir. Add the chocolate chips, if desired, and mix until dissolved. A reheat may be necessary, so just pop your mug into the microwave for 30 seconds. Top with whipped cream, and enjoy!

We hope this warms up your day and puts a smile on your face!
